IFD organises the World Championship of Young Roofers

OBJECTIVE OF THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

The World Championship of Young Roofers is a competition within the framework of vocational training in the skilled trades. It pursues the objectives:

  • To promote the common international idea in youth and in the profession.
  • To harmonise vocational training in the countries of the world.
  • To show the achievements of the roofing trade in the participating countries.
  • To make the public aware of the importance of the training performance of the roofing trade.
  • To highlight the advantages of in-company training and to strengthen the respect for the professional work in the roofing trade.
  • To promote the roofing trade.

DISCIPLINES OF THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

The World Championship will take place in the following categories (disciplines):

  • Roofing
  • Waterproofing
  • Industrial roofing, metal roofing
  • Facade.

CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION

One team from each country (state) in each category (discipline) consisting of two young roofers from a national professional organisation of the roofing trade, which is constituted in its country in accordance with the laws in force in that country, is entitled to participate. For countries where there is no comprehensive national professional organisation of the roofing trade, regional representative associations may also enter a team. Participants may not be more than 28 years old in the competition year.
 
The IFD Presidium decides on exceptions. Each participant should take part in the competition only once. Exceptionally, one participant per team may also take part in the competition a second time. Mentors should be used again.
Each team of a category (discipline) is supervised and accompanied by a mentor, whereby a mentor can also supervise the teams of his country in several categories (disciplines). Otherwise, the participating country determines the teams according to its own criteria.
Non-members of the IFD can participate in the competition at their own expense.

Jury of the World Championship

The IFD provides a jury of eight persons. No two jury members should come from the same country. The members of the jury are elected by the IFD General Assembly for a period of three years. The organising country nominates one organiser and one additional jury member per category (discipline). Jury members and head referees may not be mentors. The jury members shall evaluate the performance of the teams in the respective categories (disciplines) irrespective of their origin.

EVALUATION

The evaluation is carried out by the members of the jury. The execution of the compulsory tasks will be assessed, taking into account the following points in particular:
  • Accuracy of execution
  • Performance
  • Cleanliness
  • Utilisation of materials
  • Craftsmanship
  • Implementation of the required task
  • Serviceability

HONOURING THE AWARD WINNERS

At the end of the competition, the IFD President will honour the winners and runners-up in each category (discipline) at a ceremonial event. All participants receive a commemorative gift from the organising country and a certificate of participation from the IFD. First, second and third prize winners will receive gold, silver and bronze medals. In addition, the world champion in each category (discipline) will receive an IFD challenge cup as well as a commemorative cup remaining with the country.
The winning participants will receive a special prize.
 
In addition, a prize will be awarded by the IFD President in each category (discipline) for the cows’ task. The winners will be determined by the IFD President and the IFD Board respectively.
