IFD congresses
Usually in autumn each year at changing venues: exchange of experience, lecture series and panel discussions for everyone involved with roofs – alongside the statutory agenda items and votes on new IFD recommendations.

2023 · Bolzano, South Tyrol
The IFD AWARD 2023 has been decided
The congress with the IFD AWARD ceremony was a great success: topics from the technical commissions, renowned guest speakers, 67 projects submitted for the AWARD and remarkable venues in summer weather.
2022 · St. Gallen, Switzerland
A double victory and the first championship medal for a woman
Exciting to the end: the waterproofing teams from Switzerland and Austria went head to head – for the first time ending level on points. In the metal roofing category the mixed team of Julia Peetz and Matthias Kremer took bronze. Julia Peetz is the first woman to win a medal at an IFD World Championship.
2018 · Riga, Latvia
Latvia and Switzerland celebrate in Riga
Latvia celebrated the centenary of its independence. The IFD congress and the World Championship took place in Riga at the same time. The Swiss teams took three gold medals, one silver and a prize from the IFD President.
2017 · Vienna, Austria
Active and international
New guidelines were intended to harmonise regional rules, safety on roofs was quite literally at the top of the agenda – and the outlook reached beyond Europe to Canada and China.
2016 · Warsaw, Poland
Poland takes a double world title
The Polish teams won gold in roof covering and metal roofing as well as the IFD President’s prize for metal roofing. Switzerland won the waterproofing competition. The prizes were presented to 350 participants at the national football stadium.
2015 · Petersberg near Bonn, Germany
A global network
At that point 26 nations were connected within the IFD, with guests from 17 countries attending. China was admitted as a new full member.
2014 · Bucharest, Romania
The congress adopts the strategy for the future
A new constitution and further decisions were adopted as an important step towards the 2015–2021 strategy. The World Championship brought together 30 teams from 16 countries in three categories.
2013 · Rotterdam, Netherlands
Casting off in Rotterdam
The 61st IFD congress covered solar technology, attracting young talent, harmonising technical standards in Europe and the 2015–2021 strategy. Delegates welcomed their new President, Michael Olszewski.
2012 · Lucerne, Switzerland
Roofers in (E)motion
The 60th IFD congress was shaped by the World Championship for young roofers and discussions about the future direction of the federation.
2011 · Dublin, Ireland
The IFD prizes are awarded for the first time
The 59th IFD congress in Dublin combined technical sessions with the first presentation of the IFD prizes.
2010 · Belfast, United Kingdom
Kings of the roof
The team from the United Kingdom reached the podium three times: gold in pitched roofing, silver in flat roofing and metal, plus the IFD President’s prize for metal roofing.
2009 · St Petersburg, Russia
Russia takes a double world title
Russia won the titles in pitched roofing and waterproofing as well as the IFD President’s prize for waterproofing. Hungary won the metal roofing competition. Alongside, the 57th congress offered an opportunity for international professional exchange.
2008 · Prague, Czech Republic
A successful IFD congress in Prague
For the first time in the Czech Republic, the IFD held its 56th congress and the 21st World Championship for young roofers.
