The IFD World Championship

The IFD organises the World Championship for young roofers – a competition within vocational training in the craft.

Objectives

The competition pursues six objectives:

Promote a shared international spirit among young people and in the profession
Align vocational training across countries
Show the achievements of the roofing craft in the participating countries
Draw public attention to the importance of training in the trade
Highlight the merits of company-based training
Promote the roofing craft

Who can compete

One team per country and category

Each country may enter one team of two young roofers per category, nominated by a national trade organisation.

Up to 28 years of age

Participants may turn no more than 28 in the year of the competition. The IFD Board decides on exceptions.

Supported by mentors

Each team is supported by a mentor. A mentor may look after their country’s teams in several categories.

Jury

The IFD appoints a jury of eight. No two jury members should come from the same country. Members are elected by the General Assembly for three years. The host country nominates an organiser and one additional jury member per category. Jury members and the chief referee may not act as mentors.

Awards

Gold, silver and bronze

At the end of the competition the IFD President honours the winners and runners-up in each category. All participants receive a certificate and a memento from the host country. The world champions in each category also receive an IFD challenge trophy and a commemorative trophy that stays in their country. A prize of the IFD President is awarded per category for the free-form task.
